Computational Biologist

Vancouver, WA 

We are currently seeking an innovative, assertive and highly experienced computational biologist to assist with our Reverse Immunology efforts with primarily an oncology focus. This position will be instrumental in being able to utilize AI to create personalized medicines. 

This position requires strategic thinking and a high level of collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams within Absci. A sense of urgency and ability to thrive in a dynamic team and high-performance culture will be an asset to this role. Along with a passion for driving initiatives, and ability to work autonomously will be vital for your success in this role.

Responsibilities: 

  • Characterize antibodies to advance our AI Platform and drug programs: Analyze antibody sequences and structures to understand their binding properties, specificity, and potential for therapeutic applications. Data is derived from antibody display platforms (NGS from yeast display, phage display, etc.) as well as generative AI models. 
  • Protein Structure and Sequence Data Management: Assemble and assess protein structure and sequence datasets from various public and private sources towards training state of the art antibody engineering models. 
  • AI and Bioinformatics Development: Develop sequence models and novel single cell immunology tools towards improving our reverse immunology platform and enabling target discovery.
  • Communication and Experimentation: Present data and findings to both wet lab and dry lab teams. Identify and address data quality issues, propose next steps, and design experiments.

Required Skills:

  • Programming: Proficiency in Python including statistical analysis packages (e.g. pandas, numpy, scipy, sklearn, pytorch, statsmodels, matplotlib, Biopython) , experience with Git.
  • Statistics: Strong background in statistical modeling, particularly as it applies to bulk and single cell RNA sequencing, protein network pathways,  and DNA.
  • Data Handling: Experience in handling large datasets, with a focus on protein sequence and structure datasets.
  • A degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Immunology, or a related field. Advanced degrees preferred.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Demonstrated experience in NGS data analysis and familiarity with FACS is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in classical machine learning and statistical analyses; familiarity with deep learning and generative AI
  • Oncology-focused computational biology research experience

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000/year. Competitive equity package applies. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
